DASPI is a kernel extension that enables any application to send raw SCSI commands to optical drive. It is similar to APIs built into other operating systems, like SPTI on widows or SGIO on Linux. Unlike these, however, DASPI only allows access to optical drives one can't use DASPI API to access a hard drive or any other arbitrary SCSI device in a system.
DASPI driver is lightweight, free, and is distributed under open-source license. DASPI source code is available at http://www.makemkv.com/download/daspi
You may uninstall DASPI at any time by removing daspi.kext kernel extension.
